Foster Grandparents
Make a Lasting Difference in a Child’s Life
Foster Grandparents serve through AmeriCorps Seniors as mentors, tutors, and trusted role models for children who need extra support to succeed. Serving in local schools, Head Start programs, and community organizations, volunteers provide one-on-one attention that helps children strengthen reading skills, build confidence, and develop positive connections that last far beyond the classroom.
Through partnerships with Richland One, Richland Two, The Salvation Army, and other community organizations, Foster Grandparents are making an impact across Richland County every day.
Meaningful Service With Purpose
The Foster Grandparent Program is designed for adults age 55 and older who want to stay active while giving back to the next generation.
Participants serve 15 or more hours each week, offering encouragement, stability, and mentorship to children who benefit from extra care and attention. No teaching experience is required — just patience, compassion, and a desire to help children thrive.
This is an income-based AmeriCorps Seniors program, and eligible volunteers receive:
- A small tax-free stipend
- Mileage reimbursement
- Ongoing training and support
- The opportunity to create meaningful relationships while serving their community
