Meals on Wheels

More Than a Meal

Meals on Wheels (MoW) provides nutritious, home-delivered meals to older adults across Richland County, South Carolina. Each year, more than 1,100 seniors rely on this program for nourishment, independence, and the reassurance of a friendly visit from a caring volunteer.

Every delivery is more than a meal. It is a lifeline of care and connection that helps seniors remain safe and supported at home.

Who Receives Meals on Wheels?

Meals on Wheels recipients are the elderly and disabled adults in our community who cannot maintain an adequate, healthy diet, either because of transportation or financial constraints. Nearly three-fourths of our clients are at or below 200% the national poverty level. Without meal delivery, many of our clients would be forced to choose between paying for food, or for medication and household expenses.

What’s on the Menu?

Our menus are carefully planned by our caterer in consultation with a nutritionist to meet one-third of the daily nutritional needs of senior citizens. All meals are served with milk and whole-grain bread unless otherwise noted.

Receiving Your Meals

Meals on Wheels deliveries are made by our caring and friendly volunteers who bring meals to your home. Meals may be delivered to your front porch, front door, side door, or another accessible location at your home. To help ensure your meal reaches you safely, please plan to be home during your scheduled delivery.

Missed Deliveries

If a volunteer arrives and no one is home to receive the meal delivery, meals will not be left at the door. A “Sorry, we missed you” notice will be hung on the door with instructions to contact us.

Please call us as soon as possible after a missed delivery. While we will do our best to assist, we cannot guarantee that meals will be re-delivered.

Know you’ll be away?

If you know you will not be home for your scheduled meal delivery, please call our main line at least 24 hours in advance to let us know. Calling ahead allows us to plan accordingly and determine what options may be available.

Pet Pals

Recipients of Meals on Wheels may also qualify for the Pet Pals program, which provides a monthly supply of pet food for their animal companions. We understand that pets are part of the family, too. They are a source of companionship and comfort for home-bound adults. We want to be sure that our Meals on Wheels clients can care for their pets without sacrificing their own well-being.
