Senior Resources recently received a $5,000 donation from the Town of Blythewood. This funding will provide more than 650 frozen meals for home-bound seniors and disabled adults in the Blythewood community.
Frozen meals are delivered as part of Senior Resources’ Meals on Wheels program. The nutritionally balanced meals provide one-third of the daily recommended nutritional allowances for seniors.
“We made a financial commitment to support Senior Resources three or four years ago when we found out there were Blythewood seniors on the waiting list for Meals on Wheels,” said Blythewood Mayor Mike Ross, who delivers Meals on Wheels to Blythewood residents on special occasions. “I love visiting the seniors and going to their homes for deliveries. What an honor for the mayor.”
South Carolina ranks fourth-worst in the nation in terms of hunger and food insecurity among seniors, according to the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger. Senior Resources is the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County.
“We appreciate the support of the Blythewood Town Council and Mayor Ross as we work to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.” said Senior Resources’ Executive Director Pam Dukes. “For many of our seniors, Meals on Wheels service allows them to eat a nutritious meal each day without having to forego their medication or other necessities.”
