The Leon Levine Foundation provides support to SC seniors
September 4, 2018
The Leon Levine Foundation, a private foundation based in Charlotte, NC, has awarded a grant in the amount of $30,000 to Senior Resources. It is one of 13 grants the foundation has made in its first foray into Columbia-area non-profits, totaling $825,000 in support to the region this year.
“This generous gift from The Leon Levine Foundation will allow us to make a tremendous difference in the lives of seniors who live in Richland County, but don’t have the support they need to remain healthy and independent,” said Senior Resources Executive Director Pam Dukes. “By delivering meals and providing the assistance they need with daily tasks, we can help them remain in their homes where they want to be.”
With a corps of more than 400 volunteers, the Meals on Wheels program delivers a hot, nutritious meal each day to clients’ homes. The nutritionally balanced meals provide one-third of the daily nutritional requirements for the homebound clients. Senior Resources is the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County.
Senior Resources Home Care program provides assistance with bathing, dressing, light housekeeping, errands and caregiver respite.
Support from The Leon Levine Foundation will allow Senior Resources to serve seniors currently on a waiting list for home care and Meals on Wheels services.
“We are excited to extend the Foundation’s grantmaking to Columbia, SC, and partner with not-for-profit organizations that are making a difference like Senior Resources,” said Executive Director Tom Lawrence. “Senior Resources’ meal delivery and home care programs are comprehensive and fit strongly with the Foundation’s mission by ensuring that senior citizens can live safe and independent lives.”
About Senior Resources, Inc.
Senior Resources is a non-profit organization that coordinates services, provides resources and encourages the personal choices that allow Columbia’s senior citizens to remain independent. All activities, services and programs of the agency are geared toward promoting independent living, with the goal of helping seniors remain in their homes as long as possible through the support of staff and volunteers, and delaying or preventing institutionalization.
Since 1967, Senior Resources has served Columbia’s frail and elderly residents in three areas:
1) In-home services, including Meals on Wheels, home care, respite care, senior companion services, and case management;
2) Community-based services, including congregate meals, wellness centers, transportation, and physical fitness;
3) Volunteer services, including the Senior Companion program, Foster Grandparent program, and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
With local, state and federal government funding, as well as contributions from United Way, personal donations and fundraising activities, Senior Resources offers a variety of programs so that our clients can select the assistance they need to maintain a healthy and independent lifestyle.
