Summit on Aging Began an Important Conversation

March 6, 2017

On February 22, Senior Resources sponsored the Summit on Aging, the first event held to celebrate its 50th anniversary.  By all accounts, it was a great success.  About 140 people attended, including vendors, presenters, healthcare professionals, senior care providers, and seniors themselves.

We had three general sessions for all attendees, and nineteen breakout sessions where attendees could choose the topics that interested them.  We had a dynamic financial planning expert who gave tips on how to make your money last until you’re 105 years old.  A gerontologist spoke about innovations at Palmetto Health related to healthcare for the elderly.

A group of experts talked about the impact that Baby Boomers are having on senior services, and made recommendations on meeting challenges associated with the aging population.  And these were just a few of the interesting topics addressed in breakout sessions.  We ended the day with a discussion on the future of aging, where panelists revealed their worries for future seniors, but also gave hope for how the future view on aging is likely to change into one that values and respects the continuing contribution of seniors to our economy and our society.

Attendees made many positive comments, with many expressing interest in another Summit on Aging in 2018. So stay tuned!
