Southeastern Freight Lines Awards $50,000 to Provide Support to SC Seniors

May 18, 2020

Southeastern Freight Lines has awarded a grant in the amount of $50,000 to Senior Resources. This grant will help to support our Meals on Wheels program, home care, wellness centers, transportation services, and senior volunteer programs. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen our wait list for services in the senior community nearly triple, and the support from Southeastern Freight Lines will allow Senior Resources to serve seniors currently in these programs and those waiting for services. This grant will allow us to continue to meet basic needs and help senior citizens address senior isolation and hunger now, and well into the aftermath of this pandemic in our community.

“In our community, older adults are one of the fastest-growing segments of our population as people live longer and the baby boomer generation enters retirement years,” said Andrew Boozer, Executive Director of Senior Resources.  “As we face these shifting demographics and a changing landscape in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the generous gift from Southeastern Freight Lines is critical to serving those who are most vulnerable to hunger and isolation.  This gift will enable seniors to age in place at home and connect them with resources that will keep them healthy and independent.”

Thanks to the generous grant from Southeastern Freight Lines, we can continue our mission to provide resources and encourage personal choices that allow Midlands’ area senior citizens to remain independent and healthy. The Meals on Wheels program delivers a hot, nutritious meal each day to clients’ homes. The nutritionally balanced meals provide one-third of the daily nutritional requirements for the homebound clients. Senior Resources is the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County. Our services touch the lives of more than 4,000 Midlands residents.
