Senior Resources recently received a $3,750 Caritas Grant from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. This funding will support two Meals on Wheels clients for one year.
This grant bears the name of one of the guiding principles of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, in omnibus caritas, meaning “in all things charity.”
The Sisters of Charity Foundation awarded Caritas grants to 47 organizations that meet the basic needs of underserved individuals and families living in poverty in South Carolina. In total, the foundation awarded $112,200 in the spring of 2017 to support the organizations’ work of providing services to individuals and families in South Carolina.
“We currently have 85 elderly and disabled adults on our Meals on Wheels waiting list, so we appreciate the support of the Sisters of Charity Foundation as we work to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.” said Senior Resources’ Executive Director Pam Dukes. “For many of our seniors, Meals on Wheels service allows them to eat a nutritious meal each day without having to forego their medication or other necessities.”
South Carolina ranks fourth-worst in the nation in terms of hunger and food insecurity among seniors, according to the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger. Senior Resources is the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County.
