Senior Resources recently received a $3,838 Caritas Grant from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. This funding will support two Meals on Wheels clients for one year.
This grant bears the name of one of the guiding principles of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, in omnibus caritas, meaning “in all things charity.”
“We are proud of our ongoing association with Senior Resources and the work that they do in providing nutritious meals and essential support to homebound seniors in the Midlands,” said Tom Keith, President of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina.
The Sisters of Charity Foundation awarded Caritas grants to 50 organizations that meet the basic needs of underserved individuals and families living in poverty in South Carolina. In total, the foundation awarded $152,558 in the spring of 2018 to support the organizations’ work of providing services to individuals and families in South Carolina.
“We appreciate the support of the Sisters of Charity Foundation as we work to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.” said Senior Resources’ Executive Director Pam Dukes. “For many of our seniors, Meals on Wheels service allows them to eat a nutritious meal each day without having to forego their medication or other necessities.”
South Carolina ranks fourth-worst in the nation in terms of hunger and food insecurity among seniors, according to the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger. Senior Resources is the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County.

3) Volunteer services, including the Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent programs.
With local, state and federal government funding, as well as contributions from United Way, personal donations and fundraising activities, Senior Resources offers a variety of programs so that our clients can select the assistance they need to maintain a healthy and independent lifestyle.
