Senior Resources has received grant support in the amount of $24,300 from DAV Charitable Service Trust to provide nutritional support through Meals on Wheels to veterans in Richland County. The funding will be used to provide the delivery of a hot, daily meal to 12 homebound veterans for one year.

“It is an honor for Senior Resources to provide meals and services to our disabled veteran neighbors,” said Andrew Boozer, Executive Director of Senior Resources.  “America’s veterans dedicated their lives to the service of others, so now it is our turn for our team and volunteers to return that service.  The grant from DAV Charitable Service Trust gives these American heroes the nutrition and support to stay healthy and independent in their own homes.”

Senior Resources currently delivers hot and frozen meals to the doorsteps of over 600 elderly and disabled residents of Richland County, including 71 veterans.   We currently have nine veterans on our waiting list for Meals on Wheels service.  With a corps of more than 600 volunteers, the Meals on Wheels program delivers a meal each day to clients’ homes. The nutritionally balanced meals provide one-third of the daily nutritional requirements for the home-bound seniors.

As the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County, we are committed to providing our elderly neighbors and veterans the services they need.  With the support of our staff and volunteers, our services touch the lives of more than 4,000 Midlands residents. Thanks to the generous grant from DAV Charitable Service Trust we continue our mission to provide resources and encourage personal choices that allow Midlands’ area senior citizens to remain independent and healthy.
