Senior Resources received a $10,000 grant from SCE&G to support the agency’s Meals on Wheels program. In addition, the utility company’s employees participated in a one-day volunteer blitz to support the Meals on Wheels program.
With a corps of more than 800 volunteers, the Meals on Wheels program delivers a hot, nutritious meal each day to clients’ homes. The nutritionally balanced meals provide one-third of the daily nutritional requirements for the homebound seniors. The grant from SCE&G will provide a full year of Meals on Wheels service to five home-bound seniors.
SCE&G was also an event sponsor for the March for Meals 5K on March 10, 2018. This annual fundraiser seeks to raise funds for Meals on Wheels and other agency programs, and to raise awareness of the issue of senior hunger in our community.
On March 9, 2018, the day before the 5K, SCE&G employees spent the morning packing and delivering all of the Meals on Wheels routes. Senior Resources delivers approximately 400 hot meals each day from three distribution centers in Richland County.
“We are grateful for the financial support from SCE&G as we work to reduce our waiting list and make sure every hungry senior in our communuity is fed,” said Pam Dukes, Executive Director of Senior Resources. “But their employees go above and beyond the financial support to experience first-hand the difference our Meals on Wheels program makes in the lives of our elderly neighbors. We are grateful to have them as a community partner.”
