Senior Resources has received grant support in the amount of $24,300 from DAV Charitable Service Trust to provide nutritional support through Meals on Wheels to veterans in Richland County. The funding will be used to provide the delivery of a hot, daily meal to 12 homebound veterans for one year.

“America’s veterans have given so much to our country through selfless service,” said Andrew Boozer, Executive Director of Senior Resources. “When volunteers show up to deliver a meal to a veteran’s doorstep we are not only bringing nutrition and encouragement, we are repaying a hero for a lifetime of service. Nearly one in six of the seniors we serve are veterans and the support of the DAV Charitable Service Trust helps us meet the needs of veterans in our community.”

Senior Resources currently delivers hot and frozen meals to the doorsteps of over 600 elderly and disabled residents of Richland County, including 95 veterans. Our dedicated corps of Meals on Wheels volunteers oftentimes make a personal connection when they deliver a meal each day to clients’ homes. Veteran Meals on Wheels client, Mr. James Alford, was a command sergeant in the U.S. Army, served four tours in Vietnam, and a tour in the Korean War. Mr. Alford enjoys aging in place in his home, and he finds great joy when he makes a connection with a former veteran serving as a volunteer. He loves to share a story of his time spent serving our country, and the pride he feels as a former veteran.

As the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County, we are committed to providing our elderly neighbors and veterans the services they need to remain independent and healthy. Thanks to the generous grant from DAV Charitable Service Trust we will continue to improve the lives of men and women who served.
