Senior Resources today announced that Bank of America Charitable Foundation has awarded $20,000 in grant funding to support our Senior Meals programs that seek to address two of the biggest obstacles the elderly in our community face, hunger and loneliness. Senior clients who attend our Wellness Centers receive both a daily balanced meal and regular social interaction. And by providing transportation to and from the Wellness Centers for clients who need it, we ensure they are able to get out of their house and have social interactions, as well as a balanced meal. For our Meals on Wheels clients, the volunteers not only deliver a critical meal, but also some daily social interaction and a safety check.

“A growing number of older adults in our community continue to battle isolation and lack of nutrition on a daily basis,” said Andrew Boozer, Executive Director for Senior Resources.  “Bank of America’s continued commitment to meet these needs will make a lasting impact on our elderly neighbors.  This award not only provides seniors with much-needed nutritious foods but also personal connectedness through daily meal deliveries to homes and by supporting community meal programs in local senior centers.”

With the support of our staff and volunteers, our services touch the lives of more than 4,000 Midlands residents. Thanks to the generous grant from Bank of America, we can serve nutritious, well balanced meals to more seniors in Richland County who are food insecure.  The meals provide one-third of the daily nutritional requirements for the home-bound seniors. In addition to meeting their nutritional needs, our Senior Meals programs also addresses the social isolation felt by many of our clients, now more than ever in the wake of this pandemic.

Bank of America has been a long-standing supporter of Senior Resources and senior citizens in our community.  They have gone above and beyond since the pandemic emerged in our community by providing emergency relief funding, along with personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect our clients, staff and volunteers. In addition, in November of 2020, Bank of America named Senior Resources a Neighborhood Champion, a recognition which included $50,000 in grant funding and virtual leadership training from experts in the nonprofit sector.
