Aflac continues generous support with donation to Meals on Wheels Program

News

June 5, 2020

Aflac has awarded a grant in the amount of $9,867 to Senior Resources’ Meals on Wheels program. This generous donation is equivalent to feeding five home-bound seniors and disabled adults for a year. The funding will be used to provide approximately 1,317 nutritionally balanced meals to our Meals on Wheels clients. The meals are delivered to clients’ homes each day by Meals on Wheels volunteers, and they provide one-third of the daily nutritional requirements for these home-bound clients.

“For seniors across our community, Meals on Wheels provides much more than a nutritious meal delivered to their doorstep,” said Andrew Boozer, Executive Director of Senior Resources.  “It provides a continued connection with the community, the opportunity to speak with a friendly volunteer, and a continuous check on their wellbeing.  We are grateful that Aflac is supporting these seniors to ensure the most vulnerable in our community have the resources they need to stay healthy and independent in their homes.”

As the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County, we are committed to providing our elderly neighbors the services they need.  Last year, with the support of the community and our volunteers, we delivered nearly 170,000 meals to 1,000 of our elderly and disabled neighbors. In addition to meeting their nutritional needs, our Meals on Wheels program also addresses the social isolation felt by many of our clients now more than ever in the wake of this pandemic.

We cannot thank Aflac enough for increasing our ability to address the two greatest risks our elderly neighbors face — hunger and isolation. We are grateful for your support!
