The 5K will begin at 9 a.m. on the scenic and historic Timmerman Trail in Cayce, SC. Parking and the start/finish line will be near the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center (1120 Ft. Congaree Trail, Cayce, SC 29033). This is a flat, fast, family-friendly course, although strollers and leashed pets will only be allowed with walkers, as there are narrow sections of the course where a stroller or pet could be a safety concern for runners.
The top male and female finishers will receive an engraved vintage plate, and the top three winners of each age group will receive a one-of-a-kind medal made from vintage pieces of silverware. Festivities will also include music, fire pits, s’mores and other refreshments.
In addition to raising additional funds to serve the Richland County seniors in need, this event raises awareness of the issues of senior poverty and food instability. South Carolina ranks 4th-worst in the nation for food insecurity among seniors, according to the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger. About 19% of the elderly population in South Carolina faces hunger and food scarcity on a daily basis.
