I wanted to share an update with you.
Recently, Senior Resources has made some difficult changes. Unfortunately, we just let 104 seniors know that at the end of this month, their meal service is ending due to funding constraints. Additionally, we are winding down our Home Care program, evaluating our pet meals service for Meals on Wheels clients’ furry friends, and making other adjustments throughout the organization.
These decisions were painful, but they were necessary.
Like many families and businesses, we are feeling the impact of rising costs. More older adults are turning to us for help, but funding has not kept pace with the growing need. While support from donors like you has continued to grow, government funding for senior services has declined significantly. Then came another challenge, we learned that the cost of food for Meals on Wheels will increase by 37%.
The reality is simple: it costs more than ever to serve older adults in our community.
We could ignore these challenges and hope things improve. Instead, we are making the hard decisions now so Senior Resources can remain strong and continue serving seniors for years to come.
We are already exploring new ways to prepare and deliver meals, operate more efficiently, and make every dollar go further.
While much is changing behind the scenes, our mission remains the same. Every day, we work to ensure older adults have access to nutritious meals, meaningful connection, and the support they need to remain independent.
But we cannot do it alone.
For many seniors, the meal we deliver is more than food. It is a wellness check, a friendly face, and a reminder that someone cares.
Please consider making a gift, volunteering, or advocating for the seniors who depend on services like Meals on Wheels by calling your elected officials.
Thank you for believing in our mission and standing with the older adults we serve.
Sincerely, Andrew Boozer Executive Director |
