At Senior Resources, we are proud of our 50-year history of providing the support seniors need to maintain a healthy and independent lifestyle. We were chartered in 1967, and in the decades that followed, we developed programs to provide meals, transportation, recreation and companionship to seniors in the Midlands.
We will celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2017 with a series of events designed to educate our community about the ongoing needs of the senior population, to advocate for those seniors who can no longer advocate for themselves, to raise funds so that we can serve any senior in need in the coming decades, and to honor the contributions the older generation has made to our community. We welcome you to attend any or all of our celebratory events.

The Summit on Aging offered long-term care professionals, social workers, healthcare professionals, caregivers, students and seniors the chance to learn more about innovations in caring for the elderly. National and local experts presented on topics including financial planning, innovations in hospital care and long-term care, elder abuse, senior drivers and transportation, home design for seniors and more. Local vendors were also on site to share information about the services and resources they provide.

The Senior Hunger Lunch & Learn was an interactive lunch where guests were assigned a role to play, all based on senior citizens who live in Richland County. Some were wealthy retirees who enjoyed a bountiful gourmet buffet lunch. Some were middle-class seniors who ate a modest sandwich lunch. Some represented our Meals on Wheels clients, and were served that day's meal, delivered by volunteers from the other groups. Still others represented our Meals on Wheels waiting list. They did not receive a meal -- only a box of canned goods from our pantry. Throughout the course of the meal, we were encouraged to see those in the group with plenty to eat invite those from the waiting list to their table. We hope our guests gained new perspective into the struggles many seniors face, and the obstacles to adequate nutrition.

The capstone event to our anniversary year will be the Golden Age Gala, celebrating our 50 years of service. Join us at the USC Alumni Center for dinner, dancing and a silent auction. Tickets are $100 per person, or $150 per couple. Proceeds from this signature event will support our ongoing efforts to eliminate our waiting lists and provide service to all seniors in need throughout Richland County.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for each individual event, as well as the full year's celebration. Please contact Director of Development Daniel Casillas at firstname.lastname@example.org or 803-252-7734 x256 for more information.
